Course in Information Literacy

for doctoral students at Chalmers

Goals

The goals of the course are to give the participants: an understanding of scholarly communication and publishing; better ability to conduct information searches; knowledge about patents and patents as an information source; experience of critical reflection on the quality and relevance of different sources of information; proficiency in using a bibliographic reference handling software (EndNote).

Course outline

The course consists of three full days of instruction as well as an individual information search which includes relevance estimation of the search results. We also offer the option to book a time to make an individual search with the assistance of an Information Specialist.

Credits

To get credits for the course you are required to participate in at least 80 per cent of the course. You also have to write a report showing an understanding of the process of information retrieval and subsequent handling of search results for the individual subject choosen. The course gives three (3) credits in the doctoral programme.
