Engineering mathematics (Teknisk matematik)

Course objectives

After completing this course the student should be able to: understand how information is organized by libraries; create an effective search profile and search strategy; use print and electronic sources to locate scientific information and evaluate and cite information found.

Participants

The course is intended for students at the Engineering Mathematics programme. The Information literacy course is a compulsory part of the course Mathematical modelling.

Course organization

The course consists of an exercise at the library and a following part given via the Ping Pong teaching platform. The exercise at the library is mainly devoted to search techniques in different subject databases and how to write references. During the exercise you will be able to search for literature for your degree thesis. The second part deals with scientific communication and evaluation of information sources.

When?

The course will not be given 2011/2012.

Course material

You will get the required course material at the exercise.

Examination

Passing the course requires attendance at the exercise and a passing mark in two submission assignments. You complete submission assignment 1 when you attend the exercise at the library and submission assignment 2 is completed in Ping Pong.

Registration of grades

The result will be reported to Head of programme.

The course takes place at the main library.
