Bibliometrics and ranking
The library can help you to assess scientific productivity and impact, and visualize scientific networks and subject fields. We also analyze Chalmers results in external evaluations and university rankings.
What is bibliometrics?
Bibliometrics involves quantitative studies of scientific publications, such as:
- assessment of scientific productivity by counting publications
- assessment of scientific impact by counting citations
- visualization of scientific networks and subject fields by analyses of co-authorships and citation patterns
Bibliometrics is often used as a complement to 'peer review' in internal and external research evaluations, for example in international university rankings.
University rankings
Ranking of universities became increasingly common in the early 2000s and is now a well-established phenomenon within academia. There are many different types of rankings ranging from measuring the overall performance of universities to more specific subject oriented ones. Most are conducted on a yearly basis.
The library offers information about how the below lists are composed and a brief analysis of how Chalmers has ranked the last few years. If you wish to get a deeper insight into our work it is possible to download our annual reports: 2016; 2015; 2014; 2013; 2012
