Searching for books and articles

Below you will find information about the library’s search services, course literature and how to access databases, e-journals and e-books.

Search services

  • Summon - supersearch
A quick and simple search in one search box to access books, e-books, Chalmers publications and millions of articles.
    Summon help and FAQ

  • Databases - in-depth searching
Some databases are multidisciplinary while others are highly specialized. Searches often provide direct access to articles and other material, but if only references are retrieved, we suggest that you continue your search in the e-journal listing or in Chans.
  • E-journals - an alphabetical listing (A-Ö)
This listing provides full access to individual e-journal titles. You can search by journal title, ISSN or within subject areas. Use the CitationLinker to access references.
  • Chans – Chalmers’ Library catalogue
The catalogue contains printed books, e-books, and printed journals at the library. You can also access your library account, reserve materials, renew loans and change your address.
Catalogue -1965 - Scanned card catalogue of older materials.

  • E-books - reference works and collections
A selection of the most significant handbooks, dictionaries and encyclopedias. Please note that many more are available through Chans and Summon. Use the inventory of e-book collections to search directly in the full text .
  • CPL – Chalmers Publications
A database containing dissertations, masters and bachelors theses, articles, reports and conference papers produced by students, researchers and employees at Chalmers. Recent works may be available in full text.

How to access the e-resources

Within Chalmers network you have access to all e-books, e-journals and databases provided by the library. Students and employees at Chalmers can also log in to the same resources remotely using the library card or via Chalmers Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Log in with your library card
In order to access e-resources through our proxy server you will need a library card which you can obtain visiting any of our librares. Log in with personal ID number (personnummer) and the number at the back of your library card.

From the library web page and through the SFX link resolver, all e-resource links go via our proxy server. In the event you try to access Chalmers e-resources via Google or other places it is possible that you will not gain full text access. Should this occur you can reload the page via the proxy using a ”smart” bookmark and the library login page will display.

Chalmers Virtual Private Network (VPN)
Using the VPN you have a "virtual tunnel" to Chalmers network and e-resources can be accessed without further login. At the Student Portal you can get more information about remote access.

If you are not Chalmers affiliated
Please note that external users are welcome to access our e-resources at the designated public computers available at the libraries.

Course literature

We strive to acquire published course literature used at Chalmers. Printed course literature is integrated and placed within the subject areas in the library collection. Make a search in Chans or Summon to find out where the book is shelved or to make a reservation.

The library can only purchase a few copies of each title. Please note that you may only keep the book for a maximum of 14 days when there is a queue.

If the title is available as an e-book, we will also acquire the electronic version. E-books can be used simultaneously by multiple users and are always available. You will find the links from Chans and Summon.
