About the library

Chalmers Library is a university research library specializing in science and technology. Our most important commission is to be a central resource for information support to Chalmers students, researchers, teachers and other staff. This is also a public research library, open to all who need to use our collections and the combined skills of our librarians.
The library comprises three entities: The Main and Architecture Libraries at the Johanneberg campus and the Lindholmen Library at the Lindholmen campus. The latter also provides library services to the IT University.

Chalmers Library offers:

  • A structured network of computer services;
  • A wide range of information in both printed and electronic form;
  • Many international databases and information services in science and technology;
  • A working environment conductive to the creativity of our visitors, with reading rooms, silent reading rooms, a studio with reading aids for dyslexic and handicapped people, seminar rooms, a café and a lunchroom for students;
  • Training in information handling skills for both undergraduate and doctoral students; and
  • Courses in making information searches for groups outside Chalmers, for example schools, companies and other organisations.

Brief history

Chalmers library is as old as the university itself, i.e. from 1829. Chalmers first president, Carl Palmstedt, travelled a lot and gathered books (as well as other equipments  - and inspiration) for use in "Chalmersska slöjdeskolan", the originator of today's university of technology.
