Borrow
Create a library account
In order to borrow and request printed material at Chalmers library you need a library account. The library account is valid at all Chalmers libraries.
For those with Chalmers ID (CID)
When you create a library account, you can use the account directly for example to request books. You borrow in the self-checkout machines at our libraries by entering your personal identity number and PIN code - no library card is needed.
For those who do not have Chalmers ID
Everyone is welcome to create a library account, even if you are not studying at Chalmers. When registering, select "General public" and follow the instructions. The first time you come to the library to borrow, we need to see your personal identification card.
To use the Chalmers library, you need to approve the terms of use. You do this when you create an account.
Forgot your PIN code to your library account?
You can reset your PIN code here.
Access to e-resources
You can access the library's e-resources if you are connected to Chalmers and have a Chalmers ID. Read more on Access to e-resources.
Login to your library account
Here you can renew your loans and manage your requests.
The library uses EBSCO’s online search services. The first time you log in to request a book or renew your loans, you will be asked to approve the creation of a personalized account in MyEBSCO. If you do not want this, library staff will help you with requests and renewals.
Borrowing, loan periods & requesting
When you borrow a book, you are guaranteed a 14-day loan period. If no one else requests the book, you can keep it for up to 90 days without renewing it. After that, you can extend your loan for another 90 days.
If someone else reserves the same book after your initial 14 days, the library will send you an email with a new, earlier return date. You must then be able to return the book at short notice.
When you register your loan, you will receive a preliminary return date of 90 days on your receipt, provided there is no queue for the book. If there is a queue, you will receive a return date of 14 days.
Note that the loan period varies for different types of materials and may change depending on the condition and format of the material. Reference literature, publications older than 100 years, unique materials, and manuscripts can only be accessed on-site at our libraries.
Services for the general public
You are welcome to use our libraries even if you are not connected to Chalmers. You may borrow print books, read journals, scan materials and use our premises.
There are public computers where you can access most of the e-resources, for non-commercial purposes only.
However, the general public cannot access Chalmers wireless network, use printers, book group study rooms or access e-resources off campus.
