Library Instruction

Chalmers library offers instruction in information literacy within programs at basic and advanced levels, as well as within Chalmers’ postgraduate programs. The purpose of the instruction is to develop a reflective approach to how information is created, disseminated, valued and used in an ethical and legal way.

The library’s pedagogical starting point is that instruction in information literacy should take place via integrated elements in Chalmers educational programs, so that competency is clearly related to the course subject. Information literacy course elements should occur repeatedly throughout an education to ensure progression and achieve the best results. Course elements are planned in consultation with the programme’s examiner and teachers regarding educational objectives and examinations and can, for example, train students/doctoral students to:

  • Seek and identify technical, professional and scientific information.
  • Identify so-called grey literature, official reports and guidelines.
  • Seek and evaluate statistics and company information.
  • Manage and reflect over AI-generated material.
  • Access patents and standards for design and product development projects.
  • Know of and use different copyright licences in student work.
  • Reference different kinds of documents.
  • Design literature reviews for existing projects at basic, advanced and postgraduate level.
