Access to e-resources
As a student or employee at Chalmers, you have access to e‑resources through your Chalmers ID (CID). You can access the library's databases, eBooks and e‑journals wherever you are. If you are not a student or staff member at Chalmers, you can only use the e‑resources from the public computers in the library.
Search for e-resources
The search bar at the top of the library’s webpage is a good place to start your search. You can click on links to articles, eBooks and databases from the search results list.
We recommend the browser extension LibKey Nomad if you are going to search the internet without going via the library website. It is particularly useful if you are off campus.
It is also possible to search several publishers and databases directly by logging in to the service OpenAthens with your CID. To log in choose “Sign in via your institution”, “OpenAthens” or similar on the service provider’s website. If there are several different options for Chalmers, choose the one for Chalmers Library.
Google Scholar settings
You can also look for scientific articles using Google Scholar. To get full access you need to use the following settings:
- Select settings in Google Scholar
- Select "Library Links"
- Search for "Chalmers University of Technology Library – Full text @ Chalmers.se"
Are you having problems accessing e-resources?
If you encounter problems accessing an e-resource, check the following:
- Check that your status as a student or staff member in Chalmers’ system is active. Contact your institution if something is wrong. You will not be able to access e-resources off-site if you are no longer studying or employed at Chalmers.
- Search for e-resources using the search bar on the library homepage. You can also search for databases there. Access is not guaranteed if you use a different method to search for e-resources.
- Clear your web browser cache and cookies. You can also try incognito/private settings on your web browser to see if information stored earlier is causing problems.
- Try a different browser.
If you still cannot access the e-resource, please email the library with information on which resource you were trying to access and a screenshot of any error messages.
Terms of use for e‑resources
e-journals
You may print out or download a few articles from e-journals for your own use for non-commercial or research related purposes.
eBooks
eBook suppliers use different systems, and your right to print out and download material varies accordingly.
Print outs and downloads of a “reasonable portion” of an eBook for non-commercial or research related use are often permitted, but in some cases you are only allowed to print or download a few pages.
Some suppliers allow whole books to be downloaded for reading offline. However, downloaded eBooks may never be forwarded to anyone else.
Specific information and Terms of Use for the respective platforms can be found in the list of eBook platforms.
Not a student or employee at Chalmers?
You can still access e-resources for personal study use even if you are not a student or employee at Chalmers by using the public access computers onsite. You need a library account to be able to log in with your person number or library card number plus your pin code.
There are public access computers available at the Main Library, Johanneberg, and at Chalmers Learning Common at Kuggen, Lindholmen.
